SSJs Officially Welcome New Bishop
On Thursday, March 26, John S. Bonnici, the newly appointed Bishop of Rochester, celebrated Mass with the Sisters of Saint Joseph in the Holy Family Chapel. The Sisters were pleased to meet Bishop Bonnici for the first time and warmly welcomed him into their home.
Following Mass, Bishop Bonnici remained for a tour of the Motherhouse and joined the community for lunch, spending time as well with the resident priests.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph were delighted by his visit and look forward to future opportunities to pray, serve, and celebrate together in the years ahead.
Earlier this year, on January 7, 2026, Pope Leo XIV accepted the retirement of Salvatore Matano and appointed Bishop Bonnici as the 10th Bishop of Rochester. He was formally installed on March 19, 2026, marking the beginning of his pastoral leadership in the diocese.
