Welcoming the Holy
Here we invite you to take time for yourself in personal prayer. The following spiritual reflection offers words and images which we hope will evoke for you an experience of God.

Reading
Matthew 11:1
When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ, he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?"
Reflection
Are you the one? It is little wonder that John, sitting in prison, questions whether Jesus is the savior to come. John did not live to see the ministry of Jesus unfold; he was executed by Herod during the time of Jesus’ ministry (14:1-12).
Are you the one? John’s question resonates in our present time. Where are peacemakers? Where are healers of our environment? Where are leaders who challenge us to courageous action? Where are those who welcome the stranger and liberate those falsely imprisoned?
Threaded through the news, public and private, is the call, Are you the one?
Prayer
O most merciful redeemer, friend, and brother,
May I know thee more clearly,
Love thee more dearly,
Follow thee more nearly,
Day by day.
