Sister Lorraine Julien (formerly Sister Julia)

Sister Lorraine Julien, formerly Sister Julia, entered the Congregation from her home parish of St. Jerome’s in East Rochester. Sister Lorraine began her ministry in education, teaching at St. Mary in Elmira, St. Ambrose, Nazareth Hall, St. Monica, Immaculate Conception, Guardian Angels in Henrietta, St. Francis Xavier, St. Bridget, St. John the Evangelist in Spencerport, and Queen of Peace, in Selma, AL.

After teaching she moved into pastoral ministry at St. Thomas More, St. Monica’s, St. Francis de Sales in Geneva, and a stint in the Pine Apple Learning Center in Pine Apple, AL. Sister Lorraine feels pastoral ministry suited her. “In this ministry I met people who were poor. I felt good about connecting them with agencies that could address some of their needs. I felt that I related well to so many of the persons I served. I respected them and ‘walked’ with them in some way.”

After returning to Rochester, Sister Lorraine was active in parish ministry at Holy Apostles Church and the SSJ Volunteer Corps. She now resides at the Motherhouse and continues her prayer ministry.

“As a Sister of Saint Joseph, I have learned that the manner of our service is as important as the what of our service,” she said. “So, to do so with respect, with compassion, is to strengthen our relationship with our neighbor and assist them in their relationship with God. In retrospect, I know I have received much more than I have given. I am grateful to God and all those who have blessed me on my journey.”
