Sister Catherine Gibbons

Sister Catherine Gibbons entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1966 after graduating from Nazareth College. Sister Catherine soon began her ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Brighton. She then went on to teach at Nativity School in Brockport, followed by a year at St. Bridget’s School, Rochester. In 1973, Sister Catherine moved on to St. Mary’s, Elmira where she spent two years before serving as principal of St. Mary Our Mother School in Horseheads.

Sister returned to Monroe County in 1981, teaching at St. Jerome School in East Rochester, serving as principal at St. Michael School, Penn Yan, and teaching at St. Pius Tenth School. She later went on to serve as Faith Formation Coordinator for St. Michael Church, Lyons; St. John the Evangelist, Clyde; and St. Patrick, Savannah from 1999 through 2007. Sister Catherine also served the elderly population through the SSJ Sisters Care ministry from 1999 to 2018 when it closed.

On the occasion of her 50th Jubilee celebration in 2017, Sister Catherine shared, “My life has been enriched by all those with whom I have worked. From each ministry and area I have learned much, and have always felt that my life was enhanced and gifts used for the service of God and His people.”
