Sister Anne Michelle McGill
Sister Anne Michelle McGill was the first Pastoral Administrator in the Diocese of Rochester. The position sent her to St. Gabriel’s Parish in Hammondsport where she also became the first woman in the Diocese to head a Catholic parish.
Before her ministry in pastoral work, Sister Anne Michelle served as a teacher at St. Alphonsus School in Auburn and later at St. Anne School in Rochester. She went on to help establish schools at St. Jerome’s parish in East Rochester and St. Thomas More parish in Brighton. She was subsequently appointed principal of St. Rose School in Lima and later Holy Trinity School in Webster. Sister served as Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools and also as Pastoral Associate at St. Pius X parish. She later became Director of Resident Priests at the SSJ Motherhouse and served on the board of the Tanzanian Sister Exchange program.
In 2023, on the occasion of her 75th Jubilee, she reflected, “I have learned so much from the ministries I have undertaken. I love the children, parents and parishioners at every parish I served, and found my service as an administrator to be rewarding and a source of growth for me.”
Sister Anne Michelle was predeceased by her brother, Walter McGill. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Darrell McGill, David McGill, Dana McGill, Darlene McGill, and Darcy McGill, several great nieces and nephews, as well as friends and her Sisters in the Congregation.
