Notre Dame Retreat House Honors SSJs

Blessing and dedication ceremony

Three engraved pavers along the new Marian Walkway at Notre Dame Retreat House now bear special tributes to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester.

On Sunday, October 26, Redemptorist Father Dennis Billy blessed and dedicated the new walkway which leads to the beloved statue of Mary, Our Mother, overlooking Canandaigua Lake. The pavers range in size and are dedicated in honor or in memory of loved ones as a way of personal expression of faith and gratitude.

One paver recognizes the Congregation for its continued support of the Retreat House’s mission of providing space and time for spiritual formation. Another honors Sister Carole Proia, who served at Notre Dame for nearly 20 years, and a third was placed in gratitude for Sister Beverly Baker and her years of dedicated ministry and service.

The afternoon began with a liturgy Mass, followed by the dedication ceremony and a luncheon shared by friends and supporters of the Retreat House. Sisters Elaine Englert and Carol Cimino represented the Congregation at the celebration. Sister Elaine, a member of the Notre Dame Board of Directors shared, “We expressed gratitude to the Redemptorists for their dedicated service and mission through 65 plus years and for the new lay men and women Board Members who continue to carry the mission of providing programs and opportunities for spiritual growth for the Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse areas.”
