ISP Rochester

The newest collaborative ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph addresses a crucial need—engaging spirituality as a path to help people in recovery. The SSJs have partnered with the Ignatian Spirituality Project (ISP), a Chicago-based program founded over 25 years ago that serves individuals recovering from addiction and homelessness. Grounded in the belief that spirituality plays a critical role in their journey, ISP gives individuals a sense of belonging, purpose, hope, strength, and connection to something greater than themselves.

The ISP Rochester team is comprised of Sisters and lay men and women who lead bi-weekly spiritual reflection groups of individuals who are currently in recovery. ISP Rochester is grateful to work with Freedom House, Liberty Manor, Nielson House, and the Notre Dame Retreat House where they held their first ISP retreat in April of 20216.

Volunteer Opportunities

The ISP team welcomes others who feel called to this work to come serve as a volunteer spiritual companion, helping create a supportive community experience.

  • Description: Assist with daily responsibilities at St. Joseph’s Northside. (Examples include cooking breakfast, serving breakfast, greeting guests, cleanup, assist with connecting visitors to appropriate services, etc.)

    Requirements: Must be patient and sensitive towards all visitors, and have a willingness to learn. We are open Tuesday through Friday, 9-1 pm. One or two mornings a month commitment preferred.

  • Time: As Needed.

    Description: St. Joseph’s Northside is always looking for people who want to donate their time and have a particular skill that could benefit those who visit St. Joseph’s Northside.

    Examples include but are not limited to:

    • People with finance experience or any other type of professional experience;

    • Hairdressers, massage therapists, etc.;

    • Craftsmen, "handymen"; or

    • Gardening/Yard maintenance for our front porch and flower gardens.
