An El Salvador Connection—Then & Now
Tuesday, June 17
6:15 PM
Motherhouse Chapel
Join us for an important conversation about human rights, migration, and the legacy of U.S. sanctuary efforts. Sister Kathy Weider, a former member of the Rochester Sanctuary Committee, spent nearly a decade working alongside the people of El Salvador during a time of widespread violence and displacement between 1984 and 1992.
She will share firsthand stories of those she knew and supported, offering personal insight into the current situation — including the recent deportation and return of a legally-residing Maryland man to El Salvador’s highly scrutinized Terrorism Confinement Center.
Her talk, “An El Salvador Connection: The Realities of Salvadoran Prisons and U.S. Sanctuary for Survivors — Then and Now,” will highlight both past and present challenges, putting faces and stories to complex issues of justice, migration, and advocacy.
All are welcome to attend this timely and thought-provoking event
