About

Daystar Kids is New York State’s only Pediatric Respite Center designed specifically to meet the comprehensive needs of infants and young children with special healthcare and developmental needs. Daystar’s award winning program delivers year-round, structured, inclusive early educational programs, specialized developmental services, family training and support programs, and skilled nursing care to up to 40 children, daily.

Staffed with classroom teams of certified special education teachers, licensed therapists, and pediatric nurses, Daystar embodies best practices in comprehensive care coordination, family-centered supports, least restrictive environment standards for post-acute care, and case management principles to ensure efficiencies in the delivery of its healthcare services, minimize the drain on inpatient resources, and to provide families with the broad range of supports they need to fulfill their child's psychological, developmental, and healthcare goals.

Daystar operates year-round, Monday – Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. Daystar is located at 700 Lac De Ville Boulevard, Rochester, NY 14618 and is an independent, charitable non-profit organization and ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester.

Volunteer

Daystar takes pride in supporting the healthcare goals of its children. Therefore, we must limit the number of volunteers who have contact with our children to ensure their continued health and well being. All volunteers are subject to finger printing and background checks, consistent with Daystar's licensing requirements through the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities, and must meet our healthcare requirements to provide services to our children.

  • Opportunities

    Lunch Buddies/Shopper

    Time: Breakfast Hours: 7:30AM-9AM; Lunch Hours: 11AM-1PM

    Description: Shop for weekly or bi-weekly groceries to supply nutritious and delicious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to Daystar's infant, toddler and preschool classrooms. Menus and shopping lists are supplied. Help is needed with the shopping, delivering, and managing our inventory of groceries. If you enjoy cooking, there are also opportunities to assist our team in preparing snacks and meals.


    Reception Assistant

    Description: Welcome guests, families, children, therapists, and visitors to Daystar. Assists with managing and directing phone calls, general filing, inventory, photocopying, mailings, and other administrative duties.

    Preferences: No prior experience necessary, just a positive and welcoming attitude!
