SSJs Publicly Back Embattled Sister

The U.S. federation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of which the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester are a member, publicly backed embattled member Elizabeth Johnson yesterday. Johnson is a Sisters of Saint Joseph affiliated with a congregation from Brentwood, New York. Her book Quest for the Living God was sharply criticized by the U.S. bishops’ conference doctrine committee in April.
This week's public statement of support came as some 900 members of the order met in St. Louis for a once-every-five-year gathering to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the congregation in the United States. They also announced the completion of discussions by the order with a landmark hotel that led to an agreement to stem human trafficking.
