Community Service Times Two
Published August 27, 2011 12:48
Students from two area colleges rolled up their sleeves and helped Sisters with two major SSJ clean up projects in late August. The volunteering was part of Nazareth and Brockport Colleges’ “Day of Service”. Both schools make the day available to their incoming students in order to raise awareness about the community service opportunities that exist locally.
Sister St Luke Hardy headed up the clean up efforts at the Sisters gravesites at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. She was joined by thirteen students from Brockport, along with Sisters and friends. The group worked hard during the summer heat to clean brush and debris from around dozens of gravestones.
At the same time Sister Jean Rodman was at the SSJ Motherhouse overseeing a crew of 19 Nazareth College students. The students along with Sisters weeded, mulched, trimmed and planted for hours in the heat in preparation for the change of seasons.
The Sisters are very thankful for the hardworking efforts of the college volunteers and look forward to inviting them back! To look at pictures from the day please check out the SSJ Facebook page by CLICKING HERE.
Fall offers many new opportunities to serve God and neighbor. If you would like to offer the sacrament of your service, please contact Lisa Hartmann, SSJ Director of Volunteers, at (585) 641-8415 or lhartmann@sjrochester.org
