Who We Are
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester is a community of over 250 Roman Catholic women religious. Beyond our Congregation, we number over 100 Associates and countless supporters and friends.
In the past, people saw the Sisters of Saint Joseph as the backbone for staffing Catholic schools and hospitals. Today, we are still teachers and care givers. But that's only part of the picture.
Our Mission
Spirituality, service, and community.
As Sisters of Saint Joseph, what we hold in common is the quest for God in our lives as well as the desire to be Gospel-centered women. For us, this search leads to action in the world. Using our talents, expertise, and networks we find the best ways to help others ~ serving our neighbors, all people, no matter who they are or where they find themselves, is the Sisters of Saint Joseph mission. Our Sisters work quietly on the frontlines, addressing pressing societal needs.
Here are a few examples:
• St. Martin’s Place served 19,000 hot meals, mentored job seekers, and assisted people searching for a place to live
• St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center logged over 20,000 patient visits, caring for whole families who lack adequate health care
• The Nazareth Elementary School - Aquinas Institute partnership extended tuition assistance to needy families, offering a first class education in the city for young people from Pre-K to 12th grade
• A multitude of other ministries support people in need of help and hope.
