Who We Are

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester is a community of over 250 Roman Catholic women religious. Beyond our Congregation, we number over 100 Associates and countless supporters and friends.

In the past, people saw the Sisters of Saint Joseph as the backbone for staffing Catholic schools and hospitals. Today, we are still teachers and care givers. But that's only part of the picture.

Serving our neighbors, all people, no matter who they are or where they find themselves, is our mission. Our works are as varied as contemporary needs and as diverse as the God-given gifts of our members. We serve in the twelve counties of the Diocese of Rochester, rural Alabama, and Brazil. Mission

Spirituality, service, and community.

As Sisters of Saint Joseph, what we hold in common is the quest for God in our lives as well as the desire to be Gospel-centered women. For us, this search leads to action in the world.

Seeking Justice

Awareness, courage, and grace. Seeing chaos and daring to ask, “What can we do?” Justice is our participation in God’s constant act of making whole, healing, and liberating.  Are you looking for a thumbnail view of important political issues that call us to action?  “Just Us” is an e-letter produced by our SSJ Office of Justice & Peace to provide information on a variety of current social issues. Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester Motherhouse

Motherhouse rendering

The Motherhouse is the heart of our Congregational life. It is a welcoming place of peace and serenity for all. It also serves as the hub from which we reach out to others in prayer and service.

In addition to being home to approximately 130 of our own Sisters, our Motherhouse is also home to Carmelite Sisters and many of our retired brother priests.

You are welcome to consider our  Motherhouse as a place for group retreats, gatherings and meetings.  Please CLICK HERE for a brochure with reservation details.

You may also join us for daily Mass at 11:30am (11am Sunday) or just some time alone in our lovely Chapel.
